Since telling you last week about the deciduous tree that was tenaciously clinging to its leaves, it has shed most of them. How I miss that swathe of gold when I look out my kitchen window. I should have taken a photo to share with you.
Currently I am reading
which I am loving. My mind is all over the place accusing the characters of all sorts of misdeeds…as I’m reading I am thinking ‘is it him?’,but honestly? I have no idea who is doing what to whom in this riveting read.
This week I am also hoping to read
Although he hasn’t seen Robert Bergin for 40 years, Ishmael feels duty bound to respond when his old friend calls for help. Robert’s daughter Gillian is about to be married, and he is afraid she’ll fall prey to the ancient family curse. Arriving in rural Yorkshire, Ishmael and his partner Penny learn that the vicar who was to perform the ceremony has been found dead in the church, hanging from his own bell rope. With no clues, no evidence and no known motive, many locals believe the curse is responsible. Or is someone just using it as a smokescreen for murder? With the wedding due to take place the following day, Ishmael has just a few hours to uncover the truth. But his investigations are hampered by sudden flashes of memory: memories of the time before he was human. What is it Ishmael’s former self is trying to tell him?
I have read a few books in this series and have become quite fond of Ishmael.
Marlena Altizer Durst lives in her husband’s shadow. He controls her every move—what she wears, the food she eats, and the friends she’s allowed to make. If she disobeys, there are… consequences. And he has all the power, so nobody would believe her.
Her Cinderella story has been well-documented and it seems that she leads a fairy-tale life. But nobody ever wonders if Cinderella was happy after she married the prince. Marlena has traded freedom and safety for luxurious imprisonment, and most days, that seems like a bad bargain. Death may be the only exit she’s allowed. Just like his first wife. And his second.
Unless she flips the script.
And gets away with murder…
This week I have had approvals for 5 ARCs
It has taken me almost an hour to construct this post as the internet keeps dropping out. I have also managed to consign last week’s Watching What I’m Reading to the trash and have been unable to retrieve it. 😬😡 so I am going to close now while I still have a little signal and before I lose this week’s post…..happy reading my friends.
