Watching You by Lynda Renham

Watching You

EXCERPT: I open the door as my phone bleeps. The door is slammed shut behind me. I step into the lift, pull out my phone and squint to read the message through the cracks in the screen. There is a dark picture, the silhouette of a woman in a doorway. The text message simply reads Every move you make and every step you take, I’ll be watching you. I rub the screen and look again, and realise the woman in the picture is me. The photo is of me entering the building.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: Ewan Galbreith is out of prison.

Libby Owen is scared.

Fifteen years earlier she saw Ewan murder her aunt and uncle with their own shotgun, and now he’s coming for her.

MY THOUGHTS: I cannot even begin to imagine the fear of being stalked, much less by someone who has already killed my family. I virtually read this book in one sitting, and while it didn’t have me holding my breath in anticipation/fear, it certainly is compelling reading.

Watching You is written over two timelines; the present where Libby is receiving texts, photos and flowers from someone who can only be Ewan, who has always protested his innocence, and fifteen years earlier where the events leading up to the killing of Libby’s family are slowly revealed.

Libby is a spoiled little rich girl, and little changes in the intervening years. Yes, she has her own business, but she is still self-centred and everything is about her. I tried to like her but, in all honesty, just couldn’t. I had far more empathy for Ewan.

This is an interesting read, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more depth to the characters, and I would have liked to have felt the suspense.

    1. Yeah. . . I had a couple of issues which I need to discuss with Lynda. But they have just had a bereavement in the family, plus she has a new book out in February, so I am waiting until everything settles down for her. 💕📚
